A very proud mother moment

Today, we looked out the window and saw a bunch of fire trucks, We went outside to see what was going on. John was beside himself with excitement. It turns out that around here if they know a soldier is coming home they put on a big welcome home celebration for them. Fun! We ran back into the house and grabbed our little flags and raced back out to get a spot. The mayor was there. People everywhere. It was really something. This soldier was just coming back from a tour in Afghanistan and had no idea that all of this was waiting for him. On his ride back from the airport a huge group of Harley's surrounded him and became his motorcade. The thunder of the motorcycles would be our tip-off that they were close. While we were waiting I taught Ella and John how to salute an officer. They learned that it was their way of honoring him. We heard the motorcycles coming and up their little hands went. It was so cute!!!! I admit I got a little misty watching my kids do that and then seeing the soldier jump out of the car and run and hug his mother. It was just a wonderful thing for the kids to get to experience. I am so glad we looked out the window today. =)
